At Tomatin they're not afraid to experiment with maturation in exotic cask types. For example, last year they released this Tomatin 14 Years Old Cabernet Sauvignon.
With a length three year finish in oloroso sherry hogsheads, this Tomatin 1995 21 Years Old shows quite the sherry influence. A powerful and delicious whisky.
Tomatin Contrast is an exciting experiment to try and show the difference between bourbon and sherry maturation. For each they have used casks from the same vintages: 1973, 1977, 1988, 1991, 2002 and 2006. All of them in equal measure. So they used just as much old whisky as they did young whisky.
A bit of an eccentric Tomatin 1987 from Càrn Mòr's Celebration of the Cask-series. If you approach this whisky open-minded, there's a good chance you'll be pleasantly surprised by all the interesting things it has to offer.
