As we all know, Mortlach will soon release four new expensive luxury releases. That means that we mere mortals need to look for an alternative. This Gordon & MacPhail release might be a good one.
Single cask bottlings of Mortlach usually are very good, so I was excited to see a Mortlach included in the recent Wemyss Malts Tweet Tasting. As it turned out, it was a very untraditional Mortlach, but a very good one nonetheless.
Mortlach produces some top-notch whisky. This one from Signatory Vintage is pretty good as well, but there are many better single cask Mortlachs out there.
This 16yo Mortlach is the second bottling from Ceder & Tjeder. I didn't care for the bottling, a disappointing Craigellachie, but this Mortlach is a huge step up. Excellent!
Mortlach honors its nickname here, as this Signatory Vintage-release for The Whisky Exchange is a beast of a whisky. Not very subtle, but very delicious indeed.
The best whisky tasting in the world. Now that's quite the statement. But after taking it for the second time late last year, I'm convinced that the Cadenhead Warehouse Tasting fits that bill.
You can never fault Mortlach for being generic. This Mortlach 1990 from Scott's Selection has a pretty unique profile, with a very interesting medicinal side to it.
That sulphury, meaty quality of Mortlach is instilled before maturation. Therefore, if you put it in a refill cask, its spirit shines, even at a young age.
