A Blended Malt Whisky 'Very Old' is on the reviewing block today. This particular one is bottled by Whisky-Fässle, but we've seen quite a few of these Very Old or XO blended malts released in the last year or so.
Over the past couple of years Douglas Laing has launched a whole range of affordable blended malt whiskies, called the Remarkable Regional Malts. Last year the fifth and final installment was released, The Epicurean Lowland Blended Malt.
After the delicious and surprisingly affordable 40 Years Old, Douglas Laing now presents a new Timorous Beastie 18 Years Old. Oh, and in between they also brought us a 21 Years Old Sherry Edition.
Rock Oyster 18 Years Old is a blended malt from Douglas Laing, constructed with whiskies exclusively distilled on one of the Scottish Islands. For this whisky from Orkney, Arran, Islay and Jura was used, resulting in quite the concoction.
Another new addition to the Remarkable Regional Malts series from Douglas Laing, this Rock Oyster Sherry Edition is a small batch marriage of Single Malt Scotch Whiskies from Islay, Arran, Jura and Orkney.
A blended malt from a region with only three distilleries. That doesn't give a blender many options now, does it? Let's see how strong the Campbeltown is with this one.
