It's never bad to hear that your favourite distillery adds a new expression. Although in this case I do wonder what this new Sassicaia Wood Finish really adds to the Benromach-range.
The new Benromach 50 Years Old is a wonderfully delicate, intricate and pretty complex malt, that rivals many of its parent company long-matured Speyside releases.
The Organic is a deserving member of the Benromach family for sure. Although I much prefer the smoke and sherry of their signature 10yo, 15yo and 100 Proof.
As a Benromach-fan I was extremely excited to taste their new 35 year old expression. It did not disappoint. A very classy, soft-spoken whisky with lots of layers.
What is Benromach Cask No 1? It is a very rare whisky, and one with a great provenance, taken from the first cask that was laid down when the distillery reopened after being closed since 1983. This is exciting stuff!
