Mortlach 1987 26 Years (Adelphi)

Mortlach is one of the penultimate Scotch whisky distilleries. Because it is such a singular whisky it never bores, and it has a consistently high quality too. Combine that with the excellent taste that Adelphi has displayed over the years, and we should be in for a treat.

Mortlach 1987 26 Years (57.5%, Adelphi, C#3101)

Nose: Sweet notes of orange, lime zest and multivitamin juice are most prominent. There’s a touch of menthol too, accompanied by a whiff of oak and pine needles. Very good, very agreeable and very well-balanced.
Taste: Oily and mouth-coating. A proper sweet arrival (honey, closely followed by an abundance of citrus, tangerine and a spicy attack, without ever overwhelming the taste buds, which is quite the accomplishment. Subtle oak, a touch of pine. Rather fantastic. Water calms it down and leaves more room for the fruitiness.
Finish: More of the above. Medium in length.

Score: 90

Somewhat reminiscent of some of these old undisclosed Speyside behemoths, but with the untamed beast of Mortlach let loose on it.
