Can I just say that I’ve never had a bad Clynelish? All of ’em were good, and some have been great even. I expect this Clynelish 1989 from The Whisky Agency to follow suit, but hey, you never know. Maybe today’ll be the day that a Clynelish disappoints. Nah! I’m just kidding, of course it won’t 😛
Clynelish 1989/2011 (50,9%, The Whisky Agency, 267 bts)
Nose: Farmy (hay and straw), chalky and a good amount of candle wax. It has all the elements you’d want and expect from ex-bourbon matured Clynelish. And there’s fruit too. Pickled lemon, fermented white grapes, lychees. Balanced and fairly complex.
Taste: Buttery, but with a punch of white pepper. Soft fruits, peaches and nectarine. Vanilla too, as well as some honeycomb.
Finish: Slightly bitter at first, but then becomes fruitier again. Pears and apples. Fairly long.
Rating: 90
A wonderful example of how good a mature Clynelish can be. Wax and fruit, baby, wax and fruit.
