Caol Ila 2006 10 Years Old Whisky-Fassle

Caol Ila 2006 10 Years Old (Whisky-Fässle)

13 April 2017 0 comments Article Caol Ila, Islay, Scotland, Tasting Notes

Young Caol Ila seems to be all the rage right now. Or is it because older stuff is hard to get for (small) independen bottlers? Anyway, we’ve seen quite a few of these hit the market recently, of which this Caol Ila 2006 10 Years Old from Whisky-Fässle is an example.

Caol Ila 2006 10 Years Old (53,6%, Whisky-Fässle, 2017)

Nose: Vegetal peat, very earthy. Underripe banana and olive oil. And plenty of citrus. Lemon juice, lime.
Taste: More peat and bonfire smoke now, with vegetal undertones. Big hit of chili pepper. Cactus sap too. Some chalk and a touch of banana.
Finish: Peat, mostly. Some herbs. Medium to long.

Rating: 85

Good but not great. Or better yet: good but not really good. I’d be happy if someone pours me a dram though.
