Old Bunnahabhain… Who doesn’t like that? I mean, come on. Right? Today I get to try a Bunnahabhain 1968 42 Years Old from Liquid Sun, which is a brand owned by German bottler The Whisky Agency. It comes from a refill sherry cask. Let’s see what we have here 🙂
Bunnahabhain 1968 42 Years Old (47,8%, Liquid Sun, 257 bts.)
Nose: Light and delicate with subtle oak and a little less subtle fruits, like peaches, nectarines, pineapple, oranges and also green apple. Some light vanilla custard and the slightest touch of aniseed.
Taste: Somewhat oily. Sweet sherry notes with a malty touch. Mild brown sugar, caramel and a whiff of mocha. Some bitter oak and a light spiciness.
Finish: Light tannins and a slight bitterness transforms into a sweeter, fruitier ending.
Rating: 88
Very, very good, but… There’s much better old Bunnahabhain out there. This one lacks a certain old-schoolness for a whisky from the 1960’s, and the palate can’t quite keep up with the excellent nose.
