Big Peat Christmas 2017 Limited Edition

Big Peat Christmas 2017 Limited Edition

13 October 2017 0 comments Article Blend, Islay, Scotland, Tasting Notes

I know, it’s not Christmas yet. Not even close. But Douglas Laing has already released their Big Peat Christmas 2017 Limited Edition. It’s a blended malt whisky consisting of whiskies from seven different distilleries on Islay, bottled at cask strength.

Big Peat Christmas 2017 Limited Edition (54,1%, Douglas Laing)

Nose: Young and vibrant. Sweet malted barley, sauerkraut and smoldering campfire smoke. Plenty of vanilla too, as well as overripe banana. Nicely balanced.
Taste: Lots of brine, some tar, but also plenty of peat and thick smoke. Some mild spices, as well as mild notes of chocolate at the end there.
Finish: Peat, rye bread and subtle chocolate. Medium in length.

Rating: 85

Nothing to fault here. Well-balanced and integrated, nicely blended. Not an in your face peat bomb, it has more to offer, although this will more than satisfy peat lovers.
