BenRiach 1998/2015 for The Whisky Exchange

20 November 2015 0 comments Article BenRiach, Scotland, Speyside, Tasting Notes

This triple distilled BenRiach went into the cask over 17 years ago, and was bottled earlier this year specially for The Whisky Exchange, but not before it was finished in a Pedro Ximenex sherry puncheon.

BenRiach 1998/2015 (48,9%, OB for The Whisky Exchange, C#7758)

Nose: Mocha, cocoa beans and coffee powder, but also leather and damp wood. Lots of rich aromas, the sherry finish has really done its job. Hints of raisins and orange candy.
Taste: Spicy arrival, cloves and nutmeg. Some espresso, followed by figs, sweet dates and cherry syrup.
Finish: After the fairly spicy palate, this is pretty mellow and sweet. Medium to long.

Rating: 87

A bit too spicy for my taste, otherwise it would’ve scored higher, but it is a very good whisky still.

Sample provided by The Whisky Exchange.
